Harvey Barnes: Most memorable Leicester City moments

In this article, we look back at some of the best moments Harvey Barnes had wearing a Leicester City kit.

Leicester City is a club that you have to respect, no matter what team you support. They won the Premier League as the biggest underdogs of all time, and they’ve produced some excellent players in recent times. One of those players is Harvey Barnes – a homegrown Leicester City player that has recently signed for Newcastle United.

Of course, news of the Harvey Barnes transfer has been rough for fans of the Foxes. Yet this doesn’t mean we cannot take a moment to marvel at his greatest moments at Leicester City. After all, Barnes was involved with Leicester City from 2016 to 2023, and he showed the world what he can do with a football on many occasions throughout that period.

As for his top three moments, let me share my own thoughts on the games where he really shined for Leicester City.

Goal against Aston Villa in 2023 Season

As we all know, Leicester City were relegated in the most recent Premier League season. After a long and gruelling battle to stay up, it just wasn’t meant to be. Yet Harvey Barnes still refused to accept Leicester City’s fate until the final whistle was blown in their final Premier League game. This was obvious in his never say die attitude when the Foxes went up against Aston Villa on April 4th, 2023. At 1 goal down, Barnes was pushing and pushing to grab an equalizer for his team, and that’s exactly what he did.

Barnes received a long ball on the wing and instantly wowed the fans with his first touch, skinning Ashley Young in the process. He then looked totally cut off by two Villa defenders before creating space with immense speed and hammering the ball into the bottom right corner. In doing so, he gave Leicester City hope, while also giving the fans one of their best Harvey Barnes memories in the process.

2019 Game Winner vs Sheffield United

For the second-best moment of Barnes’ career at Leicester City, let’s rewind the clock back to 2019 against Sheffield United. This moment came at the very beginning of the 2019/2020 Premier League season, in just their 3rd game. Essentially, Barnes produced one of his very best goals from a technical standpoint in this game, hence I just had to list it. Following a ropey header from a corner, Barnes received the ball on the edge of the box and struck it first time on the volley.

The ball then sailed into the top right corner, giving Leicester City the lead and the momentum needed to secure the win that day. In fact, the goal was so good that he won the Goal of the Month award for it.

Performances vs Man United in back-to-Back seasons

For the third and final moment, I’d like to reference his love affair with Manchester United in back-to-back seasons – 20/21 and 21/22. In the 20/21 season, once again, Barnes dribbled his way out of an impossible situation to net one past David De Gea, earning Leicester City a 2-2 draw in that one. And for the game in the 21/22 season, McTominay was the victim of Barnes’ skill yet again.

Barnes decided to nutmeg McTominay while charging towards United’s penalty area. This time around, he might not have scored, but he certainly wowed those in attendance with how easily he darted past United’s top defenders – what a player!
