Much was expected of striker Gianluca Scamacca when completing a deal worth at least £30.5million to sign for West Ham United last year, but things have not gone as expected. Injury and lack of form has limited his game time at the London Stadium, and it would appear The Hammers are entertaining the prospect of allowing him to leave.
One team that Scamacca has notably attracted interest from is Inter, and the Italian international would surely be open to joining one of the top clubs in Serie A. The Rome-born forward only managed three Premier League goals in his maiden campaign, and boss David Moyes may not necessarily be too upset at losing the 24-year-old.
West Ham are currently the only Premier League team yet to make a signing this summer. They are made headlines however when parting with star player Declan Rice, who made a big-money move to Arsenal. Replacing the England international won't be easy, but they will almost certainly need to sign at least one new striker, too.
Should Scamacca indeed move on, another player would have to come into the club in his place. However, Jamaican international Michail Antonio could become another to move on, which would leave another hole in the Hammers' forward line options. He has been linked with Everton, according to Football Insider.
For now, we'll focus on what is happening all things Scamacca. So let's provide you with the latest update on his potential switch back to Italy with Inter.
Gianluca Scamacca Transfer: Will he move to Inter?
Journalist Fabrizio Romano did state that Inter had made an initial bid for the Italian frontman, believed to be worth €20million. Inter are known to be in the market for a striker after Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku saw his loan spell end, and a return to the club is not seemed to be on the cards. The Italian giants are also keen on Arsenal's Folarin Balogun.
Whilst that first offer was turned down by West Ham, a second bid has been produced, again revealed by Romano. The offer was increased to €25million over a permanent switch, possibly including various add-on bonuses, and the two clubs are very likely to conclude this in the coming days. The player himself also wants the move, and therefore personal terms surely won't be a big problem.
Therefore, it would seem that there is little to really prevent this deal from going through pretty quickly. Scamacca has actually been in decent form for West Ham during pre-season, netting goals in friendly clashes versus Tottenham Hotspur and Perth Glory.
Regarding Inter, they have one more friendly game remaining before commencing their Serie A campaign. They face Red Bull Salzburg on August 9th, before opening the league season at home to Monza ten days later. Scamacca will surely play in at least one of those matches, should nothing unexpected appear to halt progress in this transfer.
