Ghana first goalscorer odds vs Mozambique: Mohammed Kudus bang in form

After twice taking the lead in AFCON Group B action against Egypt, Ghana were pegged back by their opponents in a 2-2 draw that for many football fans was the best match in the tournament so far.

A Mohammed Kudus brace proved insufficient for Chris Hughton's side, who failed to get the better of the Pharaohs despite their star player Mo Salah been forced off through injury. That result leaves the Black Stars on the potential brink of another group stage exit at this year's tournament as they were defeated by Cape Verde in their opening outing.

As such, only a win against Mozambique will likely be enough for Ghana to progress and avoid further embarrassment on the pitch. That said, minnows Mozambique will be looking to claim a huge scalp here, and will prove to be difficult opposition after they held Egypt to a 2-2 draw after being cruelly denied by a 97th minute penalty from Salah himself.

Mohammed Kudus – 5/1

Unsurprisingly given his mammoth performance against Egypt during his side's last outing, West Ham's Mohammed Kudus is the bookmakers favourite to open the scoring again in this clash against Mozambique. His opening goal in particular stole the headlines as he bounced away from two defenders before smashing the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Thanks to a brace of tidy strikes in that match, that took Kudus' tally to nine goals scored across his 26 senior internationals caps to date, including four across his last seven internationals. Overall this campaign in his club career, the 23-year-old has also found himself in fantastic goalscoring form from midfield. Across spells with Ajax and then his new London club, Kudus has netted 13 goals in 27 matches which best highlights why he's the favourite to open the scoring here at 6/1.

Iñaki Williams in on action for Ghana on his debut in a friendly match against Brazil in September 2022

Iñaki Williams – 6/1

The bookmakers' next favourite to open the scoring in this crucial match for Ghana against Mozambique is 29-year-old winger Iñaki Williams who is valued at 6/1.

Although he's still yet to score for his country – who he switched allegiances to back in mid-2022 – across eight international appearances, the Athletic Bilbao legend is still enjoying a very strong season in front of goal. For his club, who he's helped into the Champions League qualification spots at present, Williams has struck eight goals across 18 La Liga outings, on top of three additional assists which leaves his well-placed to break his international duck here.

Antoine Semenyo – 13/2

Despite starting both of his side's AFCON matches so far at the 2024 edition, Antoine Semenyo has struggled to get too involved in the action. After being substituted off during the Black Stars' opening match, he could be dropped here but even still, the bookmakers value him at 13/2 to open the scoring against Mozambique.

With three goals across 16 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth this campaign, Semenyo is hardly an out-and-out striker even though he operates as one for Ghana. His return of just two goals across 16 international caps is also lacking, especially as he's failed to get on the scoresheet in each of his last nine outings for the African side.

Jordan Ayew – 7/1

With 97 caps to his name – the third-most in Ghana national team history – Jordan Ayew continues to be recognised as one of the country's most famous footballers. Making his debut all the way back in May 2010, Ayew has been at the forefront of much of Ghana's recent success, aiding his side in reaching the AFCON final back in 2015 whilst he's featured at the World Cup on two occasions as well.

He'll be desperate to help his side progress this time around from the group stage then, and at 7/1, he's one of the favourites to open the scoring for Ghana against Mozambique. With 20 international goals to date, Ayew has only netted one goal across his last 18 outings for his country though, but he has previously scored versus their opposition here back in 2016.
