For most Football Manager players, the idea of one day being involved in the beautiful game is nothing more than a dream. However, for some that dream becomes reality.
In an interview with Copa90, Matt Neil reveals that he first started playing the game in 2005, though his first ever football management gaming experience came through Ultimate Soccer Manager 1998/99, which came free in a cereal box bought by his grandmother.
Having had success in the game, he applied to become a Football Manager researcher for Truro City. He got the job, and two years on got the same position focusing on Plymouth Argyle.
With Copa90 he discusses how he went from being an FM researcher to actually working for the Pilgrims. His work on the game impressed people at the club, and he is now Argyle’s Chief Data Analyst.
From gamer to insider within five years, Neil’s experience goes to show that it is indeed possible to live the dream.
