Summer window free transfers 2024: Our top five

5. Che Adams

First on our list is striker Che Adams, whose contract at Southampton expired at the start of the summer. The 28-year-old could be a smart pick-up for a bottom-half Premier League side.

Adams has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, and has plenty of experience in the English top flight. The Scotland international has scored a total of 24 goals and made a further 13 assists in 124 games over four seasons in the division.

4. Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is still a free agent after his contract expired at Manchester United. He is reportedly on the verge of joining Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas.

Varane has enjoyed an illustrious career that includes winning the FIFA World Cup with France, as well as four UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid among many other accolades. The 31-year-old looks set to be a huge coup for Como.

3. Guido Rodriguez

Guido Rodriguez last played for Real Betis in La Liga, and the now free agent has been heavily linked with a move across Spain to FC Barcelona. The 30-year-old has also been touted as a potential signing for Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Rodriguez would bring a wealth of experience, having just won the Copa America with Argentina. The defensive midfielder scored two goals and provided one assist in 29 matches in total for Betis over all competitions last season.

2. Mario Hermoso

Whoever signs Mario Hermoso on a free transfer this summer would be getting a quality central defender for an absolute bargain. The 29-year-old last featured for Atletico Madrid, and won the La Liga title during his time there.

Hermoso played 45 times in total across all competitions last term, scoring two goals and supplying two assists. He is reportedly attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, namely Aston Villa, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

1. Adrien Rabiot

The free agent who currently has the highest market value is Adrien Rabiot, who featured prominently for France at Euro 2024. He has only just left Juventus, but is attracting plenty of interest already, namely from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League.

Rabiot is vastly experienced at 29 years of age, and has played at the highest level with Paris Saint-Germain as well as Juventus and the French national team. Nonetheless, the central midfielder would be a smart addition for any side on a restricted budget this summer.
