Football Whispers understand Liverpool have spoken to Bayer Leverkusen about the availability of Kai Havertz and Benjamin Henrichs.
However, Liverpool are hoping to exploit the mess Leverkusen are in to land the two players at a knockdown price, taking advantage of the fact European rivals are looking for bigger name signings this summer.
Leverkusen finished 12th in the Bundesliga last season and accumulated just half the amount of points of title winners Bayern.
That poor league performance, coupled with missing out on European football next season, could cause a mass exodus of players from the BayArena.
Football Whispers understand Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the company bankrolling the club, will pressure Bayer sporting director Rudi Völler into accepting any reasonable offers for their players.
That could see the likes of Havertz, Henrichs, Hakan Calhanoglu, Julian Brandt, Kevin Kampl and Jonathan Tah following Omar Toprak – who has signed for Borussia Dortmund – in departing for pastures new this summer.
