England vs USA: FW Predictions

England look to build upon their biggest-ever win at the World Cup when they take on the USA today. The Americans picked up a point against Wales on matchday 1 but might have been disappointed not to have won the game after dominating the opening 45-minutes.

England to Win

England were in fine form against Iran and we expect Southgate's men to have most of the ball against USA. England scored 6-goals against Iran and the USA defence struggled against Wales in the second-half, so imagine how much trouble they will have stopping Kane, Sterling and Saka on Friday. England will be expecting a much-tougher game than they got against Iran but still have the far better team on paper and go into the game full of confidence.

Bukayo Saka to Score

Saka scored twice as England hammered Iran 6-2 in the opening game of the group and we're backing the Arsenal winger to score again against the USA. This World Cup feels like it is going to be positive for the likes of Saka and Bellingham, England's young lions, both of whom scored and looked dangerous throughout the Iran game.

As you might imagine following that big win against Iran, England are the clear favourites to secure all 3pts against a USA side that only managed a draw with Wales. We're going to take a closer look at the odds ahead of England vs USA and see which way the bookmakers think the game is going to go.

England odds: 8/15 (1.53)

Draw odds: 17/5 (4.40)

USA odds: 31/5 (7.20)

As you can see, there appears to be little chance of an upset in this game, though, we believe that it will be a much tougher test for England compared to the Iran game. USA gave Wales a really tough time in the first half and although the game ended all square, the Americans gave England plenty to think about.

If you think this game will be low-scoring you can get odds of 39/40 on Under 2.5 Goals being scored, while ad Over 2.5 Goals bet will give you odds of around 19/20. It doesn't look like the bookmakers believe both teams will score, which suggests an England win and a clean sheet. A bet on BTTS will get you odds of around 1/1 while BTTS – No has odds of around 11/12, and an England Win-to-Nil bet is set at around 8/5.

Can the USA upset the odds in Al-Khor?

England

England totally dominated Iran on matchday 1, running out 6-2 winners. While there were lots of positives to take from the game in terms of England's attacking ability, Southgate will have been concerned that Iran managed to score twice against them despite hardly entering the English half. The USA will offer more of a threat going forward in this game so England need to defend well and not get too frustrated if they don't manage to create as many goalscoring opportunities as they did on matchday 1.

USA

A goal from Weah put USA 1-0 up at the break against Wales, but the Americans should have scored more goals in that half as it ended up costing them a win. Wales made some tactical changes and brought on Moore up front which swung the game in the European's favour. In the end, the USA gave away a penalty which Bale converted and the game ended in a 1-1 draw but Wales did have chances to win the game late on, so a point was probably a fair result.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

England: Harry Kane is expected to start today despite injuring his ankle against Iran. We're not expecting Southgate to make any changes to the starting lineup today but Kyle Walker is now fit and able to come in if needs be. James Maddison isn't quite ready to play for England just yet but will likely start in the final group game should England win today. Here is our predicted lineup for England:

Pickford (GK), Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Bellingham, Saka, Mount, Sterling & Kane

USA: Despite coming off with injury against Wales, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musak are expected to keep their place in the starting lineup for the USA today. Giovanni Reyna and Brendan Aaronson are both good attacking options in midfield should the US coach decide to be brace against England today. Here is our predicted lineup for the USA:

Turner (GK), Dest, Zimmerman, Ream, A. Robinson, McKennie, Adams, Musah, Weah, Sargent & Pulisic.
