Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland has reportedly made Chelsea as the first choice should he leave the German outfit, according to the Telegraph. The Norwegian international has been the hot property in world football and he is expected to command a transfer fee in excess of £150 million.
Manchester City, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, and Chelsea have all shown an interest in the 20-year-old, who has come up with 41 goals in as many appearances this season. This includes 10 goals in the Champions League to finish as the top scorer in the competition.
Chelsea are understood to be interested in signing Haaland and adding strength to the squad that has just won the Champions League. Dortmund, though, have insisted that the striker will not be sold this summer. There are rumours about a £75 million release clause in Haaland’s contract that comes into effect from next summer.
The two-time Champions League winners, though, are looking into the possibility of pushing for the striker this summer by capitalising on the good relationship with Dortmund. Chelsea picked up Christian Pulisic from Dortmund for a handsome £58 million in January 2019.
In recent seasons, Chelsea have had the knack of picking players well below their asking price. Some of the recent examples would be Kai Havertz, who was signed for £74 million from the asking price of £90 million, and Ben Chilwell, who was signed for £50 million against an asking price of £80 million.
A world-class striker is a priority for Chelsea, who have struggled to get goals out of Timo Werner on a consistent basis. Apart from the interest in Haaland, Chelsea are also keeping their options open with the club eyeing Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan.
Olivier Giroud has signed a one-year contract extension, but the future of Tammy Abraham is in doubt.
