Donny van de Beek has had a difficult time since joining Manchester United from Dutch giants Ajax in 2020. The midfielder left the Eredivisie outfit after an impressive time at the club, having worked his way through the youth teams before starring for the senior side.
During his five-year spell in the first team, Van de Beek made 175 appearances, boasting tallies of 41 goals and 34 assists. He played a key role as they won the Dutch league and cup double in the 2018/19 season.
It has been a very different story at Manchester United, however, with the midfielder struggling to replicate the form he showed in the red and white of Ajax for the Red Devils.
At the Manchester outfit, Van de Beek has made 60 appearances, but has registered just two goals and two assists. None of those appearances have come in the new campaign, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag not handing the player any minutes so far.

Donny van de Beek transfer latest
The midfielder’s lack of minutes has increased the uncertainty of his future at Old Trafford, with a switch to Turkey mooted for Van de Beek.
However, it seems that the player will be staying in Manchester for the time being, even with the Turkish transfer window still being open.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old is likely to remain at his current club until the January transfer window.
“I think at the end there is a very good chance Donny stays until January, because Donny does not want to make a move to say I’ll be away for six, seven months and then I will return,” said Romano, as per Football Transfers.
“This is not Donny’s style. If he wanted to go to Turkey he had some possibilities to go, but he wanted to play Champions League football, and now that is no longer possible because Champions League lists are already closed.
“So I think at the moment this Donny story with Turkey is not that concrete. It was a possibility a couple of weeks ago but the player was not so keen on that kind of move. I expect Donny to stay. Let’s see.”
Pros and cons of Donny van de Beek staying
Donny van de Beek is in a tough situation, with a move away perhaps the best option, given how he will be guaranteed regular playing time at another club that wants him.
There, even without Champions League football, he could undoubtedly find some form, which could then lead to a place in the Netherlands national team once again.
If he does stay, it would be negative for both the player and his club, with the latter wasting valuable money and squad space on someone they do not rate.
However, if the midfielder works hard behind the scenes, there is every chance that he can win over his manager and the fans, particularly given how Manchester United will need a big squad to successfully compete in all competitions.
When does the transfer window close in Turkey?
Unlike the Premier League transfer window, which closed on 1 September, the Turkish transfer window is still open. It will remain open until 15 September.
That leaves Turkish clubs with some time to get any more deals in, one of which could be Van de Beek, who has been linked with moves to both Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
But nothing has come of that just yet, with the player remaining at Old Trafford for the time being, even if he seems to be at the very bottom of the pile when it comes to Erik ten Hag’s midfield selections.
