World Cup Betting Tips for Denmark vs Tunisia

Denmark will play at the World Cup five times before this year's Qatar edition. Their best performance was in 1998 when they managed to get to the quarter-finals before being stopped by Brazil. Tunisia, on the other hand, never made it past the group stage in all five of their World Cup appearances. Let's see our predictions for this head-to-head game.

Denmark to Win-to-Nil

Denmark won their one and only previous encounter with Tunisia back in 2002 and 20-years later, we're backing the Danes to be victorious once again. Denmark have won four of their last six matches in all competitions, keeping clean sheets in two of their last three outings against France and Austria. Tunisia don't often get tested against tough opposition like Denmark but did lose 5-1 to Brazil in a friendly in September and failed to score in their last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Botswana.

Under 2.5 Goals

We're not expecting lots of goals in this game, just one or two from Denmark at most. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Denmark's last four matches, two of which ended in 2-0 victories for the Danes. Three of Tunisia's last five matches have also witnessed fewer than three goals scored and we're not expecting the Africans to provide a lot going forward in Qatar.

The bookmakers fancy Denmark to get off to a winning start in Qatar with the latest odds in favour of a Danish victory. Tunisia aren't a bad team though and Demark certain shouldn't estimate them and if you fancy a flutter on the underdogs here are the latest odds:

  • Denmark odds: 3/5 (1.60)
  • Draw odds: 3/1 (4.00)
  • Tunisia odds: 33/5 (7.60)

The whole of football was delighted to see Christian Eriksen return to football after collapsing at Euro 2020. The Danish playmaker has a goal in him from open play and set-pieces and you can back the Man Utd midfielder to score first against Tunisia at 15/2.

It seems as if the bookmakers aren't expecting many goals in this game, perhaps due to the strength of the Danish defence. The odds for under 2.5 goals are currently at a low of 4/5, while you can back over 2.5 goals at 11/8.

Who Will Win in the First Match from Group D?

Denmark

Denmark's recent opponents include teams like France, Serbia, and Austria, and they managed to win the games against these particular teams without problems recently. If Christian Eriksen is well enough to play, he is someone you should definitely keep an eye out for. Besides him, Kasper Schmeichel who is very good in his position as a goalkeeper is also going to be a key player during this tournament. We don't think he will let many goals past, especially in this first stage.

Tunisia

Tunisia doesn't have a lot of popular players on their team that anyone outside of Africa would have heard of, but if you should watch out for someone is Youssef Msakni the captain of the team. He already has some experience playing in Qatar because his current club is Al Arabi. Another player with experience playing in Qatar is Ferjani Sassi. Overall, we don't think Tunisia has the chance, especially against Denmark at this stage of the tournament.

Player to Watch – Eriksen

Danish football was at its height between 1980-1990 when the small nation rose to secure a European Championship against the odds. Since then, whilst still producing some top-class players, Denmark have never reached the last four at a World Cup with 1998's quarter-final finish their best performance. The 2022 Danish World Cup side has plenty of quality and experience within it, including two of the nation's most-capped players, Simon Kjaer (121-caps) and Christian Eriksen (117-caps). These two players were involved in the worst moment in European Championship history at Euro 2020 when Eriksen collapsed due to heart failure and Kjaer helped resuscitate his friend before the doctors arrived, saving Eriksen's life.

Not many expected Eriksen to return to football the way that he did and they certainly didn't think he be backed at a major international tournament. The now Manchester United midfielder is the heartbeat of the Danish side, creating goalscoring opportunities from open play and dead-ball situations. Eriksen, 30, will play a large part in Denmark's success in Qatar, should the Danes progress, and we expect to see a big performance from the former Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford star today against a Tunisia side too many pundits have already written off. Whether it be a goal or an assist, we think Eriksen is the player to watch when Denmark take on Tunisia in Group D.
