Team News, Preview, and Crystal Palace vs Brondby Lineups
Crystal Palace
The London-based club fans are struggling to cope with the fact that players like Wilfried Zaha and Luka Milivojevic who were staple players in the team over the last few years, have gone on pastures new as free agents. Crystal Palace refused to sell each of them, especially Zaha who had some big offers, but now both are gone without the club getting anything in return. Goalkeeper Jack Butland and midfielder James McArthur also left the team when their contracts ran out. The only player that has been brought in carries the name, Jefferson Lerma, he arrived on a free transfer. The supporters are justifiably asking whether the club has any money to spend this summer. Michael Olise is out through injury.
Possible lineup: Whitworth, Guehi, Richards, Mitchell, Clyne, Lerma, Schlupp, Eze, Hughes, Ayew, Mateta.
Brondby
The Danish team will start its domestic campaign in around ten days, the Denmark league starts its season earlier than most competitions in Europe. Brondby has been in preparation mode for some time already, but this will be their only second friendly match this summer. They defeated Hillerod with a 2-1 score. There was minimal transfer activity within Brondby this summer, with Noah Nartey and Ludwing Vraa-Jensen being promoted from the club's youth team. Andreas Pyndt left to join Silkeborg on a free transfer, and the same happened with Christian Friedrich who signed for Naestved.
Possible lineup: Hermansen, Lauritsen, Tshiembe, Riveros, Wass, Radosevic, Bell, Greve, Nartey, Kvistgaarden, Hedlund.
Player to Watch: Jean-Philippe Mateta
The 26-year-old French striker joined Crystal Palace 18 months ago from Bundesliga outfit Mainz after previously playing for the English team on loan. His minutes varied during his first full season at the club, but now with the departure of Wilfried Zaha, he will presumably get a lot more chances to shine.
Mateta scored ten goals with a single assist in 67 games that he played for Crystal Palace, and earlier in his career he had stints with Chateauroux and Le Havre. His career stats included 83 goals in 223 appearances. Mateta went through all the relevant youth categories with France's national team selection but never played for the senior team.
Starting lineups
Starting lineups are usually released 60 minutes before kick-off.
