Borussia Dortmund have reportedly turned down an official offer from Chelsea for Erling Haaland, who has become the hottest property in world football at this movement. According to Sky Sports, the value of Chelsea’s offer is not yet clear but the blues are understood to have offered Callum Hudson-Odoi or Tammy Abraham as part of the deal.
Chelsea are aware that Borussia Dortmund are already on the verge of losing Jadon Sancho, who has been one of their key players over the last few years, to Manchester United for £73 million. At this juncture, losing another important player like Haaland will be a massive blow to the club’s ambitions of Champions League qualification and beyond. Due to the situation, Chelsea have reportedly offered Tammy Abraham, who has been frozen out of the first-team action by Thomas Tuchel, as part of the deal.
The Champions League winners are desperate to strengthen the forward line-up, which has been the Achilles heel for the club for the last few years since the departure of Diego Costa in 2017. Even though many forwards have excelled in patches, the lack of a consistent goalscorer has been the biggest problem for the blues.
Olivier Giroud is expected to complete his €2 million move to AC Milan in the next few days. This would leave Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham as the recognised forwards in the squad.
Dortmund have reportedly placed an asking price of £150 million in a bid to scare potential suitors for Haaland, who could be available for just £75 million next summer due to a release clause in his contract. Chelsea, however, are not ready to pay this extravagant premium being demanded by the German club. Furthermore, Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola is also believed to be asking for a whopping fee of around £35 million as commissions.
