Chalobah to Man Utd: Bid lined up for £25m Chelsea defender

Trevoh Chalobah to Man Utd is a potential transfer to look out for in the summer window, according to The Independent.

They report that Manchester United are weighing up a possible bid for the Chelsea defender, who may have to be sold by 30 June in order to help the Blues comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The London club are looking for around £25m to sell, which would represent pure profit on their balance sheets, and Man Utd are looking for a central defender under the age of 25 as per their new recruitment policy under the ownership of Ineos, and 24-year-old Chalobah fits that mould, although he does turn 25 in July.

Chalobah to Man Utd: Varane replacement?

Raphael Varane has announced that he is going to leave Man Utd after a three-year spell at Old Trafford, meaning that the club will need to find a replacement. Like the Frenchman, fellow centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire have also suffered from injury problems this season, and so it is an area of the pitch that they could do with some cover.

Chalobah would certainly help provide that, having started 10 of Chelsea's last 13 games in the Premier League. However, he too has suffered from injury problems in this campaign, and so signing him would be a huge risk for the Red Devils.

Nonetheless, when Chalobah has played it is safe to say that he has performed well, having won eight of the 13 top-flight matches that he was involved in, and only losing once.

He even chipped in with a goal against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, as he helped the Blues finish in a respectable sixth place in the table.

Another quality of Chalobah's is his versatility, as he is equally as comfortable playing as a right-back as well as at centre-half, and with Man Utd often switching between Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position, the Englishman could provide another option.

Of course, manager Erik ten Hag's future is still up in the air, so there may be some question marks over any early recruitment, but Chalobah would certainly be a smart signing whoever the Red Devils boss is come the next campaign.
