Brighton vs Grimsby prediction and top betting tips

Grimsby have enjoyed a spectacular run in the FA Cup this season and are within touching distance of a Wembley showdown. Will a match away to Brighton prove a hurdle too far or can Paul Hurst's men write their names into the history books by making the semi-final? Find out with our Brighton vs Grimsby match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Brighton vs Grimsby Prediction 1: Both teams will not score

We kick off our predictions for this game in the both teams to score market and we are betting on ‘no'. Brighton have only seen both teams score in one of their last five matches. Grimsby meanwhile have seen both teams score in just one of their last four games. With both sides showing form for their games ending with a ‘nil' in the scoreline, there is little reason to expect this match to go end-to-end.

Brighton vs Grimsby Prediction 2: Under 2.5 goals

The second of our football betting tips for this game comes from the total goals market and we're backing under 2.5 goals. Brighton have seen three of their last five games go under that 2.5 threshold whilst Grimsby have seen each of their last four matches fall south of the 2.5 cut off. Given how Grimsby are likely to approach this game, we're expecting Brighton to be dominant but without bagging loads of goals.

So, that gives you some insight to how the different bookmakers see the action unfolding. How though do the Brighton vs Grimsby odds translate into probability ahead of this game? Let's find out.

Brighton odds: 1/8 (1.13) – 89%

Draw odds: 8/1 (9.00) – 11%

Grimsby odds: 18/1 (19.00) – 5%

Brighton are, as you'd expect, massively favoured by the bookies heading into this game and at 1/8 (1.13) they're unlikely to attract much in the way of bettors money. Instead, you'll have the romantics putting small stakes on Grimsby to win and more seasoned punters looking to find value in the more bespoke match result markets. Handicap markets are likely to be popular.

Check out the predicted lineups ahead of Brighton vs Grimsby

Brighton

The big question facing Roberto De Zerbi ahead of this game is how much does he rotate his team. Brighton are going strong in the Premier League with European football very much a possibility for next season. He'll feel his side have the quality to win this game even with a number of changes to his XI and those two factors combined could see him ring the changes. The fact Grimsby have reached this stage by knocking out Premier League opposition though will surely be in RDZ's head and, as such, we're expecting a mixed lineup with plenty of top drawer talent.

Predicted lineup – Sanchez, Estupinan, Webster, Colwill, Veltman, Gilmour, Gross, Sarimento, Mitoma, March, Ferguson

Grimsby

Let's be real; Grimsby have written a beautiful story simply to reach this stage but an away tie to Brighton is another step up from the teams they've faced to this point and they'll need the stars to align to progress through. That being said, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for Paul Hurst and his men and, as such, they'll leave everything on the table. Expect them to name their strongest possible XI.

Predicted lineup – Crocombe, Maher, Waterfall, Efete, Emmanuel, Hunt, Holohan, Driscoll-Glennon, Clifton, McAtee, Orsi-Dadomo

Player to watch

Not even Grimsby fans will dispute that they're up against a vastly superior side in pure quality terms here but, given the nature of the tie, we wanted to shine a light on one of the away sides star players – namely Gavan Holohan. Holohan will likely operate in one of the central midfield positions during this game and, as proven in the previous round, he has an eye for goal too. He bagged a brace as Grimsby eliminated Southampton and also bagged in the previous round as his side eliminated Championship Luton. On top of that, he's not played 90 minutes for the last couple of games so will bring a much needed fresh pair of legs to the middle of the park too.
