Brennan Johnson is one man who could be on the move in the final week of the transfer window with Tottenham Hotspur leading the race for his signature. Nottingham Forest have already rejected interest in Johnson this summer though and are keen to hold onto their forward. Here’s the latest with the potential Brennan Johnson Tottenham transfer.
Johnson was a big factor in Forest’s ability to beat the drop on their long awaited return to the Premier League last season. He appeared in all of the club’s league games, scoring 8 goals and assisting a further 3.
The 22 year old has been on a steady rise since enjoying an impressive loan spell with Lincoln City in League One during the 2020/21 season, before exploding back at his parent club as Forest won promotion from the Championship in 2021/22.
It’s little surprise there is interest in the Welsh international, however Forest are clearly reluctant to sell their Nottingham-born academy graduate who has been at the club since he was eight years old.
Brennan Johnson Tottenham transfer – Latest update
Spurs are exploring a move for Brennan Johnson, who is keen on a move. Forest value Johnson at over £50m (perhaps even closer to £55m). Tottenham may explore a cash-plus-player offer with Davinson Sanchez discussed.

Tottenham are making a late push to sign Brennan Johnson as they bid to bolster their attacking options in the final days of the transfer window. Talks are believed to be ongoing between the clubs, although no formal Spurs offer has yet been reported.
Forest’s valuation for Johnson is said to be in excess of £50m but given the limited time that remains for them to reinvest that cash, some kind of player exchange could be included in any deal. Defender Davinson Sánchez has been mentioned as a potential makeweight in this transfer with the Colombian currently out of favour under new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.
Discussions over other ways to structure this deal may currently be taking place between the clubs with Johnson believed to be keen on a move to North London. Forest will want to bring in additional firepower should they lose the versatile Johnson who is capable of operating as a striker, attacking midfielder or right winger.
Spurs lead race for Johnson
Spurs are not the only Premier League club to have been linked with Brennan Johnson but they do appear to be the clear front runners to land the 22 year old.
Chelsea was one possible destination and the youngster would certainly have fitted well with the club’s current recruitment model of targeting young players and tying them up to long-term contracts. However, the Blues have now reportedly pulled out of the race due to Forest’s high asking price.
West Ham were also showing some interest when it looked like Lucas Paqueta may be heading to Manchester City. However the collapse of that deal makes any Hammers move for Johnson seem increasingly unlikely.
Spurs may find the fiercest competition in the race for Brennan Johnson comes from another London club with Brentford having reportedly submitted an ambitious £40m offer for the Forest man. Such a deal would smash the club’s transfer record which was set earlier this summer with the signing of Nathan Collins from Wolves.
The Bees are clearly big fans of Johnson but they may need to go higher still if they are to have an offer accepted. Even then, it’ll be a difficult transfer for Thomas Frank’s side to pull off, given the interest from Spurs and it’s likely the Forest player would favour a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
