When people are playing any of the latest FIFA games, the immediate reaction is to look for the best strikers, attacking midfielders, etc. However, one of the best forms of offence is to have a great defence, which is why we’ve taken the time to look at the best CB on FIFA 21, or at least break down our top 10! There are some true greats of the game serving this role at the current moment, and whether you want to look at grabbing these players in career mode, or whether you want to simply enjoy their skills in quick play mode – we are sure that the information here will serve you well.

Best CB on FIFA 21 – our top 10

Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus)

Matthijs De Ligt

This man has developed quite the reputation in recent years, and not just for his performances at his current club either. Out of this list of the best CB on FIFA 21, he is undoubtedly towards the top of the ladder. In the game, de Ligt is 85 overall, but at just 20 years of age, he can grow to 92 overall – and he has a value of €99 million.

Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)

Of the many players discussed here, Upamecano offers one of the best value buys if you are looking to pick up a player in career mode. In FIFA 21, he has a value of €54 million, which is primarily because he is rated at 79 overall, but he has tremendous growth potential with a rumoured cap at 90. Undoubtedly, he is one of the leading centre backs in the game.

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

Sergio Ramos is a legend in the world of football, so you may not be surprised to see that we have him listed as one of the top centre backs in FIFA 21. With that said, he may be 89 overall in the game, but at 34 years of age, he won't be improving beyond this point. It is his age which is one of the primary factors for why he is valued at just €33 too, but you could definitely get a solid season or two out of him should you sign him in career mode.

Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool)

To be fair, Van Dijk probably tops the list when it comes to finding the best CB on FIFA 21. At 28 years of age, he is listed at 90 overall, and he is one of the best aerial defenders in the world. His value is €113 million in the game, and he is contracted at Liverpool until 2023. He’s a Champions League winner, a Premier League winner, and above all, he’s a guy that will give you everything he’s got on the pitch – definitely one of our top picks!

Mats Hummels (Dortmund)

Hummels isn't the youngest centre back on the list, but at 87 overall, he is clearly one of the best. His value when you start the game is approximately €54.5 million, but given that his contract with Dortmund is close to expiring, you can get a pretty good deal on this guy in career mode if you want to sign him.

Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)

Laporte is one of the more aggressive defenders in the game, and he is a phenomenal tackler of the ball. This is a key attribute for a central defender, and although he is 86 overall when you start the game, he can grow to 89 overall. Since he comes with a price tag of €79 million, this is one of the more affordable players if you start with a big club.

Marquinhos (PSG)

Marquinhos is an excellent investment if you are playing in career mode. He is young, talented, skilful, and his potential for growth tops out at 90 overall. This would make him one of the best centre backs in the world, although since he is contracted at PSG until 2024, you will need some solid negotiation skills to get him to your club.

Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

Koulibaly is a bit of a hidden gem in our opinion. He is incredibly strong on the ball, great in the air, and he is fairly quick for a centre back. He’s 29 years of age, 88 overall, and he is valued at €76.5 million. So while he won’t improve, he is a solid defender that you will get many great seasons out of.

Gerard Pique (Barcelona)

Pique is a guy that almost needs no introduction these days. He has been a Spanish hero for years, and even at his ripe old age, he is still one of Barcelona’s starting CB’s in the game. Given that he is 86 overall, he is still up there and competing with many other players that we would view as some of the very best CB’s too. He’s a true team leader too, adding direction and leadership to a team wherever he plays. And since he is in the twilight of his career, his value is very low compared to the others too – at just €32.5 million.

Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)

Chiellini CB on Fifa 21

Finally, we have the legendary Giorgio Chiellini – an Italian legend that is still plugging away at one of the top sides in Serie A – Juventus. With that said, Chiellini is one of the oldest centre backs that we have included in this list, at 35 years of age. This means that inevitably, his best playing days are behind him, but he is still carrying an overall rating of 86, and with good reason. He is incredible when it comes to winning the ball, very solid in the air, and he has great vision to pick out a pass when the counter-attack is on. The only problem is that he will soon be retiring from the game, which is why his value is only €18 million.
