Over 2.5 Goals

We're expecting an entertaining 90-minutes between two nations that have never faced one another before. Both Belgium and Canada have strength in their attacks and we expect that to show for all to see in this game. Two of Belgium's last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals, including a 6-1 victory over Poland in the Nations League, while three of Canada's last five fixtures have ended the same way.

Both Teams to Score

Both teams have found the back of the net in three of Belgium's last five matches and in two of Canada's last four outings, so you can see why we're backing both teams to score in this game. De Bruyne, Lukaku, Hazard, Trossard and Mertens all carry goal threats for the favourites, while Davies, David and Larin are all talented and pacey attackers that Belgium will struggle to keep at bay.

Despite Belgium finishing third in the last World Cup and this being the first appearance for Canada since 1986, the average odds on Belgium are a bit higher than we expected:

  • Belgium odds: 8/15 (1.53)
  • Draw odds: 7/2 (4.50)
  • Canada odds: 23/4 (6.75)

It's clear from these odds that Belgium is the favourite, as expected, with a probability of 65.2% to win this game. Meanwhile, the probability of Canada winning is 14.8% and for a draw 22.2%. As we said already, we probably expected teh Belgium to be an even bigger favourite here.

When it comes to goals, the bookies expect to see them in this game, although it's not too certain. For example, the odds on over 2.5 total goals are 4/5 (1.80), which is 55.6% in terms of probability. On the other hand, the average odds on under 2.5 total goals are 19/17 (2.12), which is 47.2% probability.

Meanwhile, if you want to check some very high odds, you should consider betting on correct score. The lowest average odds are for 1-0, 2-0, and 2-1 to Belgium.

Can Belgium go further than they did in Russia?

While Belgium is hoping to get at last as far as they did in Russia, Canada will try to do as best as they can in their second appearance at World Cup. So, let's take a closer look at the teams ahead of their duel in Group F:

Belgium

Finishing third at World Cup 2018 was the best Belgium's ever done in the history of the competition, topping their previous result by one spot since they also finished fourth in 1986. After that, the team reached quarter-finals in Euro 2020 and they were second in their group in Nations League, so they can be optimistic ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

The team is coached by Roberto Martinez, who is at the team's helm since 2016, which is a respectable continuity and another advantage for Belgium. The team's captain is Eden Hazard, but the quality comes from many different players, including Romelo Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, Dries Mertens, and many others.

Ahead of the Canada game, Romelo Lukaku is still questionable and more likely to sit the game out than play due to fitness concerns.

Belgium Predicted Lineup:

Courtois – Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Debast – Meunier, Tielemans, Witsel, Castagne – De Bruyne, Batshuayi, E. Hazard

Canada

The last and only time Canada was at the highest stage of international football was back in 1986, in Mexico when the team lost all three of their games. Now Canada will appear at World Cup for the second time in their history, which is a huge result for them, but their chances of getting out of the group are once again very slim.

Canada's head coach John Herdman managed to install a winning mentality in his team as Canada not only qualified for World Cup but did it by finishing first in the North and Central American WC Qualifiers. 39-year-old Atiba Hutchinson is the team's captain, but their main player and the one that brings the team to another level is Bayern Munich's, Alphonso Davies.

However, Alphonso Davies suffered an injury a couple of weeks ago and he is still deemed as questionable for this game, which would be a huge blow for Canada.

Canada Predicted Lineup:

Borjan – Laryea, Johnston, Steven Vitoria, K. Miller, Adekugbe – Buchanan, Hutchinson, Eustaquio – David, Larin
