Bayern Munich 2-1 Manchester United – 30th March 2010

Man Utd went to Munich in March 2020 for the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final. The Red Devils were chasing a third consecutive Champions League final appearance and got off to a great start at the Allianz Arena when Wayne Rooney nodded home in the 2nd minute. Bayern turned the game around thanks to late goals from Frank Ribery and Ivica Olic but the biggest blow was the sight of Rooney hobbling off the pitch at full time.

Manchester United 3-2 Bayern Munich – 7th April 2010

Against all odds, Wayne Rooney was passed fit to play in the return leg in Manchester a week later and his presence helped United to a phenomenal start at Old Trafford. The Reds were 3-0 up after 40 minutes and were well on their way to the semi-final before an Olic goal against the run of play and a Rafael red card shifted the mood in Manchester. Arjen Robben scored a stunning volley in the 74th minute to send Bayern through to the semis on away goals.

Manchester United 1-1 Bayern Munich – 1st April 2014

David Moyes' Manchester United faced Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in April 2014. Bayern were the far superior outfit and had 74% of the ball at Old Trafford but that didn't stop the Reds from taking the lead via Nemanja Vidic in the first. Schweinsteiger levelled the scores to give Bayern an away goal heading back to Munich.

Bayern Munich 3-1 Manchester United – 9th April 2015

It was a similar story in Munich in terms of Bayern domination but it was once against Man Utd who took the lead, this time through a rocket from Patrice Evra. The ultimate snatch-and-grab was on but only for two minutes as Mario Manduzikic levelled the scores quickly. Bayern then went up a gear and ran out 3-1 winners to safely secure their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Potential MVP – Harry Kane

Harry Kane has taken to the Bundesliga in a similar way to how Erling Haaland took to the Premier League last season. The England striker is leading the Golden Boot race in Germany with 18 goals in 13 appearances while he has also found the back of the net four times in five Champions League appearances for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Kane has a decent record against Man Utd with six goals and three assists against them. Given the fragility of the current United side, you would be foolish to bet against him adding to those tallies on Tuesday night.

Key trend

Comebacks! Both clubs have enjoyed famous comeback victories against each other, from United's historic 2-1 win the Champions League final to Bayern's 3-1 win in Munich in the 2014 Champions League quarter-final second leg.
