Bayern Munich have opened negotiations with Antonio Rudiger over the possibility of a summer move to the Allianz Arena, according to goal.com. Rudiger is out of contract at Chelsea and the 28-year-old has not yet been able to be terms over a new deal with the blues. Despite being one of the key members of the Chelsea squad that has been immensely successful under Thomas Tuchel, Rudiger appears to be holding out for one big contract. In order to secure the same, the 28-year-old may have to move elsewhere and a return to his homeland would appear to be a tempting option.
Bayern are on the verge of losing Niklas Sule on a free transfer. Just like Rudiger, Niklas Sule also has his contract on the verge of coming to an end. PSG have also been showing a lot of interest in Rudiger, who won the Champions League with Chelsea last summer. The defender had to endure a lengthy spell on the sidelines when Frank Lampard was in charge. Since the appointment of Tuchel, however, Rudiger has not looked back. He has been instrumental in the left side of the back three.
Julian Nagelsmann refused to entertain any questions about Bayern opening up negotiations with Rudiger’s agent. Rudiger will be free to discuss terms with a foreign club from December 1. Tuchel, though, remains confident that Chelsea will be able to find solution to the contract conundrum.
Chelsea have been interested in signing a defender this summer. Due to the likelihood of being able to complete the deal for Jules Koundé, Chelsea find themselves in a precarious position of losing key defensive assets without proper back up. The blues have already allowed Kurt Zouma to join West Ham for around £27 million. After missing out on Jules Koundé, Chelsea have reportedly switched their attention to Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt.
