Alves comes to offer a significant choice for Xavi in the squad. As a mark of respect to the club that brought him to international limelight, Alves has reportedly agreed on a contract worth just € 1 per month. Even though the Brazilian will start to train with the Catalan outfit from next week, he will be eligible to take part in matches only from January 1.

In his first spell at Barcelona, Alves spent eight years and made just under 250 appearances in the league. This was also the most successful time in his career after helping Barcelona win the La Liga six times, Copa del Rey four times, Champions League three times, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and more. Following his immensely successful time at Barcelona, Alves moved on to Juventus and Paris St Germain where he enjoyed relatively moderate success.

A few months ago, Alves came ahead and offered his services for Barcelona after watching a difficult start to the season for the Catalan outfit. Owing to a lot of financial troubles, Barcelona have sold many of the top players and they have been restricted to free transfers. Ronald Koeman has just left the club to be replaced by club legend Xavi in a move widely expected to bring back memories of Barcelona’s best years.
