Estonia vs Austria Lineups and Last Match

Estonia

Estonia played host to Azerbaijan last month hoping to end their winless start to the qualifers. However, the visitors took the lead after nine minutes and never really looked back, doubling their advantage in first-half stoppage-time and running out 2-0 winners. Estonia simply don't carry much of a goal threat and are poor defensively with two goals scored and eighteen conceded in their six qualifying matches. Captain Konstantin Vassiljev and forwards Henri Anier and Sergei Zenjov have a combined 300+ caps for their country and 65 goals but each is in their early to late thirties now and their best playing days are behind them.

Predicted Lineup – Hein (GK), Pikk, Kuusk, Peetson, Paskotši, Vassiljev, Miller, Käit, Poom, Tunjov & Anier

Austria

Austria also faced Azerbaijan in their last qualifying match, three days after Estonia in fact. Austria would have been expecting a tough game having seen Belgium scrape a 1-0 win in Baku back in September, and that is just what they got. The pair played out a goalless first half but Austria were awarded a penalty in the forty-eighth minute which was despatched by Sabitzer. That goal proved enough for Austria to claim a 1-0 victory but the game ended on a sour note for the visitors who had striker Kalajdzic sent-off in stoppage-time despite the Wolves man having already been substituted in the eighty-second minute and will now miss the trip to Estonia.

Predicted Lineup – Schlager (GK), Lienhart, Wöber, Kainz, Grillitsch, Laimer, Sabitzer, Schmid, Alaba, Seiwald & Gregoritsch

Player to Watch: David Alaba

Austria captain and Real Madrid star, David Alaba is back in the squad for Thursday's game having missed the last set of qualifiers through injury.

The 31-year-old adds another level of quality and experience to the Austria defence and while we don't expect the vastly experienced utility man to be tested much in this game, his ability to bring the ball out from the back and quality on set pieces should see him play a big part in the game.

Alaba may even get deployed at left-back with Alexander Prass not getting a call-up this time around and that would allow Wöber to remain alongside Lienhart and give Alaba more license to get forward and create chances.

Alaba will move ahead of Andreas Herzog and onto 104-caps if he plays in this game putting only Marko Arnautović ahead of the Real Madrid man on 110-caps.
