Non-league football has always acted as a proving ground for talented footballers who have slipped under the radar of the game's biggest clubs.
England internationals Chris Waddle and Ian Wright, among countless others, both got their starts outside of the Football League before being snapped up and thrust towards stardom at the highest level.
Now more than ever, though, there is a focus on gifted players emerging from the National League, thanks to the recent successes of the likes of Jamie Vardy, who was plucked from non-league level by Leicester City, and Chris Smalling, who turned out for Maidstone United before going on to star for Fulham and Manchester United.
