With the World Cup in Russia just seven months away, national team managers will be getting a clearer picture of who will be included in their starting line-up for the tournament.
While several players are guaranteed to start for their countries barring injury – think Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi – many of their compatriots do not have such a certain future.
They need to impress for their clubs in the coming months but, for some, that is easier said than done.
There are several players at teams around Europe who are struggling for regular football. They've even fallen out of favour or are struggling for form and have lost their place in their respective sides.
Either way, if they're to keep their World Cup hopes alive, a January more may be needed. And we here at Football Whispers have picked eight high-profile players who may need a permanent or temporary switch when the winter transfer window opens.
Make sure to let us know who you think is in danger of missing out on a place at the World Cup by tweeting us as @fb_whispers. And if you think we've missed someone out, let us know.
