Socceroos Fixtures and Possible Results Qatar 2022

Wondering what the Socceroos fixtures are and how they might play out in the World Cup this year? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

Socceroos Fixtures – Possible Outcomes World Cup 2022

The Aussies have been given a tough group, there is no doubt about that. But the Socceroos have made it to the knockout stages in the past. However, this was 16 years ago, so they are understandably desperate to make it this time around.

On that note, three teams stand in their way. Those teams include France, Tunisia, and Denmark. Of course, France is tipped to win the group given that they won the previous World Cup. But the other spot is genuinely up for grabs, and the Socceroos results will need to be good if they are to make it. That’s assuming that they don’t manage to beat France. However, a draw against the French would be huge, and this is their opening game in Qatar on November 22nd.

Anyway, our goal here is to identify the possible outcomes for each of the three group games facing the Socceroos. So without further ado, let’s take a look at how things might play out.

Predictions for Socceroos Fixtures – Group Stage Matches

The Socceroos are the lowest-ranked team in Group D. But as we all know, teams of a lower rank don’t always bow out in the group stages. Anything can happen once the games begin in Qatar, yet the Aussies will have to play extremely well to make it through to the knockouts. And as stated previously, they have three games to play in the group. These games are discussed in detail below.

Australia vs France

This is the biggest test that the Socceroos will face in Group D. Of course, France won the 2018 World Cup and they are naturally one of the favourites to repeat this feat in Qatar. So to open against the defending champions isn’t exactly a favourable schedule for the Socceroos. This game is set for November 22nd with a 10 PM kick-off, local time. That’s quite a late start, we know, but this is the state of play throughout the World Cup given the heat in Qatar through the day.

As for the possible outcome of this game, it’s hard to look beyond a win for the French. As the world number 4, France is truly a force to be reckoned with at the moment. They have some world-class players in their ranks, and although it might seem negative to say, the talent they have could easily outshine the Aussies. The only hope for the Socceroos is that France has a slow start and that they can grab an early goal.

This would possibly upset the French and throw them off their game. But if the Socceroos let France settle and work their way into the game, it could end badly. The Aussies have odds of 15.00 to beat France as things currently stand. And this tells the story.

Tunisia vs Australia

The second of the Socceroos fixtures at the 2022 World Cup is set for November 26th, and the kick-off is earlier for this game at 1 PM local time. As many expect, assuming that the Socceroos lose to France, this game will be critical for their chances of progressing through the group. And Tunisia is ranked 30 in the world, making them the easiest opposition that the Socceroos will face in Group D – not that there is such a thing as ‘easy’ at the World Cup.

Interestingly, of all the Socceroos fixtures, this is the only one in which they are favourites according to the bookies' odds. Many top sportsbooks have Australia as the marginal favourites for this game, and the most recent odds are 2.67 for the Socceroos to win. We are inclined to agree with these odds too, which means that we are shooting for an Aussie win here. However, we do not expect a blowout, not by any means.

Tunisia will fight every step of the way in this match, especially since they are forecasted to lose their opener against Denmark, on paper.

Denmark vs Australia

If the Socceroos are to progress through Group D, they will need to draw with Denmark as an absolute minimum. And to guarantee that they make it to the knockouts, they need to beat Denmark. This is the last of the Socceroos fixtures from the group, and the game is set for November 30th at 6 PM local time. It is going to be a huge game too, so we definitely recommend that you watch this one.

We should also point out that Denmark was pulled randomly from the second pool of possible teams when the initial draw was made. This means that they had a ranking which put them in this pool in the first place. And right now, Denmark is ranked as the 10th team in the world. With the Aussies down at 39, as you can imagine, this is a huge test for the Socceroos. And in our personal opinion, we feel that a draw is possible here.

If that happened, it could well come down to goal difference as to who progresses from Group D. But if the Socceroos upset the odds and beat Denmark, they will officially be in the knockouts. Note that the odds for this particular game have not been published yet.
