New Zealand vs Philippines Expectations
- We expect to see another Hannay Wilkinson goal, as she bagged a lovely 48th-minute winner against Norway.
- Hopefully, the New Zealand vs Philippines head-to-head will have plenty of goalscoring opportunities, as we saw 24 shots at target in Football Ferns’ previous outing.
- Some of the goals may come as a result of set-piece opportunities, given New Zealand’s previous game’s statistics.
- New Zealand shouldn’t have issues crushing lackluster Philippines, as the class difference between the two sides is simply staggering.

New Zealand odds: 6/25 (1.24) – 75.0%
Draw odds: 4/1 (5.00) – 19.0%
Philippines odds: 12/1 (13.00) – 6.0%
With a whopping 75.0% win probability ahead of Tuesday’s clash, New Zealand are understandably the bookmakers’ expected winners at 6/25 (1.24). Meanwhile, the Philippines’ win chance is valued at barely 6.0%. Even a draw at 4/1 (5.00) seems far-fetched, as there’s only a 19.0% likelihood of that happening. Over 2.5 Goals is priced at 9/10 (1.90), but we have faith that the 52.43% probability will be enough for us to see plenty of goals at Wellington Regional Stadium on the 25th of July.
New Zealand vs Philippines Lineups & Team News
New Zealand
As we mentioned earlier, Football Ferns did beautifully to prove the bookies wrong in their opening World Cup game against in-form Norway. The match at Eden Park ended 1-0 in favor of New Zealand after a sensational Wilkinson goal in the 48th minute of the game. No matter how hard Norway tried to make a comeback, Football Ferns stood their ground and held on to their lead. We expect to see more of the same from the hosts throughout the tournament's Group Stage, as 1st place is certainly up for grabs.
Predicted lineup – Eson (GK), Bott, Stott, Bown, A. Riley, I. Riley, Percival, Steinmetz, Hassett, Hand & Wilkinson
Philippines
You can’t possibly expect the Philippines to escape the dreadful Group A of the Women’s World Cup tournament this year. Davies-McDaniel and her partners did poorly against Switzerland at the start of the campaign, as they had zero shots on target. The only good thing we can say about the Philippines’ display is that after the Swiss were hammering away for the better part of 90 minutes, the Philippines conceded only two.
Predicted lineup – Davies-McDaniel (GK), Long, Cowart, Beard, Sawicki, Quezada, Barker, Eggesvik, Harrison, Guillou & Bolden
Player to Watch: Hannah Wilkinson
31-year-old Wilkinson doesn’t have too many glorious days ahead of her. She’s reaching the end of her career and this will probably be her last World Cup with New Zealand. However, it seems that her swan song is going to be a beautiful one.
Hannah Wilkinson scored the winning goal for Football Ferns on the 20th of July when the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament began. She opened the score with a lovely 48th-minute banger that proved decisive.
